University Medical Center Employees to Announce their Workers’ Agenda for 2017

Like you, we work hard every day to give our patients the best possible care, to build a real spirit of community in our hospital, and to provide for our families. With our hard work, we’re helping University Medical Center to invest millions in growth and expansion. But at the same time, we are seeing some challenges, and we face an uncertain future for our families and ourselves.

But we have hope! Since uniting together with SEIU we’ve seen significant gains. Priorities that we advocated for have been adopted into the budget and issues that we have raised have been addressed by our CEO Jacob Cintron. We know that by consulting actively with hospital administration, we’re better prepared to face any challenges ahead.

In 2015, by working together with the County Commissioners Court and UMC’s Leadership Team, we increased the minimum wage at our hospital from $7.25 to $10. In 2016, we won $1.5 million in market adjustment raises. In 2017, we’re ready to win and fight for more improvements! On July 5, 2017, our hospital begins its 2017-2018 Budget Hearings, and we’ll be there to present our Workers’ Agenda:

1) Catch up to El Paso – $3 million to bring UMC up to market;

2) Safe Hospital, Healthy Patients – Better Health and Safety measures that can improve our staffing and workload;

3) Improve Benefits – PTO and Sick Leave. Holiday Pay, Differentials, Eliminate Employee Parking Fee.

Now is the time to unite to make University Medical Center a better place for patients and employees.
