Houston, TX—In response to President Trump’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, SEIU Texas president Elsa Caballero issued the following statement:
“It is a sad and difficult day for our immigrant families in Texas and for the more than 120,000 young Texans that benefit from DACA.
“It is cruel that while the state of Texas and our communities continue to rebuild after Hurricane Harvey, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who led the charge against DACA, did not back down and continued his attack against immigrant communities who are already very concern about seeking disaster relief because of Texas’ anti-immigrant law SB4.
“Our community will not forget who was behind this cruel and heartless act. We vow to stand together and fight forward despite the hostility of federal and state elected officials.
“We will use our collective power to continue to improve the lives of workers and their families and help prevent deportations and protect our immigrant community.
“We call on Congress to take action now and pass the DREAM Act immediately.”
